ROAD TO HANA

Monday Afternoon

The road to Hana (RTH), as I said is very twisty with lots of one lane bridges.

You are rewarded with beautiful views though!
Our first stop was at Aunty Sandy's fruit stand. I had read up that this was THE best place to get banana bread, so we stopped and got a mini loaf. We dug into it immediately, it was nice and hot! And they're right- it's awesome :)
Keane Peninsula
See the RTH cutting across the mountain?

We drove the rest of the RTH without doing any stops, we were wanting to hit them all on our way back and were instead going straight to Oheo Gulch. We entered Haleakala Natl. Park from the bottom entrance (the same park we went to see the sunrise, it's a HUGE park) and hiked the trail to Oheo Gulch.
This is called seven pools because one just flows right into the other cascading down into pool after pool.

After seven pools we decided on a whim to hike the Pipiwai trail- an over 2 mile pretty intense, rugged trail that led to a waterfall.
Baby falls on the way

When it started to seem as though we would never get there, we stumbled out into the open to find this beautiful 400 ft. tall falls!!!

So worth the hike :)
This ENORMOUS banyan tree was on the trail

Then we started driving back on the RTH and hitting the stops we passed on the way in.

We were starting to get really hungry so we stopped at a bank of food trucks for lunch. I chose this truck:
And had this super tasty chow mein made fresh right on the spot for me!!! It was delicious! Even though Zach and I shared we still boxed some up because it was so much food.
*Funny story- next to the soy sauce were bottles of red hot sauce (?) and I had Zach get one for us. We used it and we thought "Wow! This is really sweet, but it's amazing!" We commented multiple times throughout the meal how much we liked the red sauce until we got a funny feeling. I tried the sauce plain on my finger and.....yep. Ketchup. Plain ol' ketchup... Wow.
Zach's pork sandwich
We shared this pina colada sorbet out of a coconut shell!!

Last hike of the day was back to Twin Falls- not nearly as magnificent as our first ones...but still...cute ;)

Road to Hana is an ALL DAY thing- finally head back to the condo after being gone for 12 hours!
