RAINBOWS, WATERFALLS AND BIG ROCKS

Tuesday Afternoon

After our shark non-adventure we continued driving the NE coastline of the North Shore. Luckily we had lots of other things planned to do today as well! We stopped first at Waimea Bay where there were more beautiful rainbows going on!

Rainbows mean it's sprinkling though so we decided to come back to the bay in a bit and go do our waterfall hike through the rainforest. We figured if it's raining we might as well be in a rainier place...

Ironically though it was all sunshine in Waimea valley on our hike!
We hiked to the falls, which weren't very big, but were still pretty and then turned around and hiked back out.

We went back to Waimea Bay for better weather this time. As we laid out I was working up the courage to jump off Waimea rock.
It's a big 30-35 ft. rock that has a constant line of people on top waiting to jump off. It is perfectly safe, but still really high so that scared me a bit! After seeing Zach jump off though I knew I had to do it too so I climbed up and did it!

It really wasn't too bad :) By this point we were getting hungry so we set out for our hole-in-the-wall destination of Ted's Bakery. Another local hotspot.
Ted's is known for their chocolate haupia pie, and after sharing a piece we can see why!
For lunch we ordered a bento box to share: rice, mahi mahi, spam, beef, fried chicken, and a hot grilled shrimp sandwich.
It was all fantastic except the fried chicken- that was really meh. But everything else, great! Continued on our drive after lunch and stopped at Turtle Bay.

We did a bit of snorkeling here before heading to Banzai Pipeline to watch the surfers.

In the winter the swells get up to 60ft!! but even though they were probably only 15-20ft. today they still looked huge! We stopped to take a few pictures at Shark's Cove next, but the weather was getting pretty overcast so we went back to Haleiwa where we had started our North Shore journey.

We joined the super long line outside Matsumoto's general store for none other than REAL shave ice!! Not your average sno-cone ;) This is the place where shave ice originated and it was awesome.
My flavors were lilikoi, tangerine and pineapple.
Zach's was lychee, pickled mango, and li hing mui (a tart plum flavor).
Another tasty treat :)
