SHOP LOCAL

Saturday Afternoon

This morning after working out we made an exciting trip to...WalMart! Haha.
We needed to pick up some supplies/food. I wasn't crazy about getting all my produce there to begin with and then discovered that they didn't even really have any! Check out what they DO have that you can't find at a WalMart where I am from:

A whole aisle for chocolate macadamia nuts?

So we did a little research and found this awesome market area in Chinatown that had tons and tons of fresh produce! A lot of which we had no idea what it was...

At the end of our visit to Chinatown Zach got a super fruit smoothie made entirely of fruits: avocado, lychee, sour sap, mango and a bunch of others we didn't recognize.
I had some and it was great! Though I am not a fan of the gelly bubble things on the bottom.

Here is the best "health food" haul I could do on vacation with a WalMart and a Chinese market :)
(I brought our own organic peanut butter and jelly from home)

Then it was time to hit the beach!!

When we finally got hungry we walked to our lunch destination- over two miles away! Good exercise and a great way to enjoy more of Hawaii.

We really like to find local gems and this tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurant had rave reviews.
We ate a truly authentic Hawaiian lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it! We shared the Lau Lau platter: rice, lau lau (pork steamed in spinach-amazing!), pipikalau (like a jerky), lomi salmon (a chilled raw salmon + tomato dish), and haupia (coconut almost jello like treat).

Us with our haupia.
We made a stop into the Honolulu Cookie Company where we got to sample a few little pieces of their different shortbreads and came away with a box of five :)

Hung out at the beach a bit more and now are getting ready to check out our condo pool!
