THE TRAVEL CHANNEL MADE ME DO IT

Saturday Afternoon

We made amazingly good time on our way to St. Louis. And despite the gray skies we really didn't hit hardly any rain! When we got to the city we headed straight for one place- Pappy's Smokehouse. Pappy's is a bbq restaurant that's been on "Man V. Food" and "101 Chowdown Countdown" and we have actually tried to go there before. We love going to places that have been on the travel channel and a couple years back we stopped in St. Louis on our way out to Colorado specifically to eat at Pappys. Thing is that Pappys is so popular that by the time we got there they had SOLD OUT of their meat!

This year was a different story. The line we waited in to get into the building, to snake around the building, to go through the whole restaurant to the cash register may have been huge, but there was still meat left!

Zach ordered a half slab of ribs with sweet potato fries and deep-fried corn (yes, deep-fried).
He was convinced before he ordered that half a slab would not be enough but I persuaded him that yes, yes it would most certainly be enough!! Guess who was right? ;)

I ordered the two meat plate with brisket and pulled pork and got potato salad and fries. Both our meals came with thick slices of bread.

Oh man was this good!! I am not a huge bbq fan typically but this meal was incredible! Zach's ribs were the best thing I think, though my potato salad and pulled pork were wonderful too! Here's the huge smoker that the pit masters cook everything in.
After lunch we headed to the St. Louis City Museum. It's in an enormous warehouse and is like one enormous playground for big kids and adults!! It was crazy! They had all these climbing structures everywhere and slides and themed rooms.

You could just go anywhere in the building and climb all over everything and it was all made out of recycled materials and such.

We went down a 10-story slide that was ENORMOUS.

The outdoor area was cool too, just such a crazy concept. I literally had never seen anything like it!

Next we headed to Ted Drewe's- another travel channel place that is a St. Louis staple.
It's a custard joint! I got the cow-moo-flauge custard concrete made with marshmallow and oreo and it tasted divine.
I got the medium size but they put it in a huge cup for some reason. Couldn't finish it all (still too stuffed from lunch!) but what I ate was good! We are loving St. Louis :)
