OH YUMM!

Thursday Evening

Oh yummmmmm is not just what we were saying ALL NIGHT, but also the name of our fabulous find, Oh Yumm! Bistro! We get a magazine each month called Indy Monthly about our state's capital, Indianapolis. We venture to Indy about once a week to try out new up-and-coming places or old gems which almost always come out of the Indy Monthly; tonight's was no exception.
Tonight was a lovely date with the love of my life. Unusual for us to travel to Indianapolis on a weeknight, but sadly I am going to be husbandless for the next two days so we wanted to make the most of our time together before he left.

I sat down and demanded a glass of their finest wine and this magically appeared in front of me!
Okay, actually it was more like: peruse the list, try to find what's the least expensive thing I can get away with while still being classy? Enter their house merlot :)

Both Zach and I have a serious thing for variety. We like to try as many different things as we possibly can (which is why we ALWAYS share our dinners- we totally have the “plate swap” down.) I don’t think we have ever ordered the same thing simply for varieties sake! Therefore the tapas menu at Oh Yumm was totally the choice for us. After much deliberation we settled on three different tapas to share.
Before we got to our tapas though they brought us out some pretzel rolls with a regular whipped butter and a mustard grain butter. I am not big on bread baskets but I do love pretzel bread and it was hard to limit myself to just half a roll. I did so though knowing that even better food was coming our way!
First up was the Ahi Tartare: Tossed with avocado, chives, toasted sesame seeds, & miso-ginger vinaigrette served with Asian slaw & flatbread crackers. This came out with 5 of these flatbread crackers which are very reminiscent of my favorite crackers from Trader Joes. The tartare was the perfect blend of veg (cabbage, yellow peppers, carrots) meets fat (avocado) meets tuna. I had a cracker and a half with scoops from the tartare. Again, could have eaten another two crackers but refrained.

Next out was their Flatbread Pizza II: Lime tequila cocktail sauce layered with shrimp, basil, cipolinni onions, fresh mozzarella, goat cheese, & fetaI had three of these small pieces and they were out of this world good! Loved the tangy, sweet cocktail sauce (it was like bbq!) with the smoky shrimp. The mozzarella was fresh and melty and I am so glad we ordered this!
Last of the tapas was Piquillo Rellenos: Mild Spanish peppers filled with chicken, chipotle goat cheese, & basil served on greens drizzled with aged balsamic vinegar & olive oilI had one and half of these sweet peppers. The stuffing dissolved in your mouth in a wonderful way and the flavors were so complementary to one another!

Dessert was not an option tonight, it was a MUST! Their whole dessert menu looked scrumptious but we both knew immediately what appealed most to us. I chose a sticky chocolate-chip bread pudding made from croissants with some strawberries on the side.
Zach (true to Zach-ness if you know him) picked the s’mores creme brulee. He loves anything and everything s’mores!! His was a chocolate custard creme brulee topped with flambeed marshmallows and graham crackers.

Of course we each had half of ours and half of the other person’s. Also true to our nature, Zach preferred the food he had ordered, I preferred whatever was in my mouth at the time. Folks, this dinner was
G O O D.
We took a short little walk and some photos as the sun set on this wonderful day. Such great food, such great company, such a great day :)

I see you all looking!

Tomorrow’s Friiiiiday!!
